I’ve always wanted to make a lampshade and recently I came across some fabulously designed handmade button lampshades on pinterest so I thought I’d have a go myself!
Our living room is kitted out in aubergine colours and I wanted my lampshade to tie in with our colour scheme at home.
I found 300g of aubergine mixed buttons on Ebay which cost around £6 including free postage – bargain!
And I had a pretty tired and dusty old lampshade already so I used a sponge to clean it with washing up liquid and water first of all and left it to dry for a couple of hours.
Then I pretty much stuck the buttons on randomly with some fabric glue! Very therapeutic and a teeny bit addictive!
I was going to decorate my lampshape all the way to the bottom as I have seen in the photos on pinterest – however – because our living room is fairly dark anyway, I thought I might end up losing quite a bit of light when the lamp is switched on as the buttons are dark. I ended up decorating around halfway down and finishing with a wavy band of buttons.
It’s definitely added a bit of interest to an otherwise boring lampshade! What do you think?
