It’s here at last! Yippee! I absolutely couldn’t wait to get hold of this beading book – Metallic Seed Bead Splendor – by Nancy Zellers as I will be using it to guide me through the Bead Along project with Off the Beaded Path! This is the first time that I’ve been involved in a Bead Along project and I have to say it’s quite exciting knowing that people from all over the world are creating beautiful seed bead projects at the same time.
I thought I would do a quick review of the book before I get too heavily involved in making the first project!
Firstly, the pictures in the book are stunning. Maybe I’m just drawn to them because the projects are made up mostly in gold and bronze with just a few bold feature colours here and there. I’m a bit of a magpie to be honest always attracted to bling. But wow!! You can easily make a classic, timeless piece of jewellery from these patterns. For the purpose of the Bead Along, I will probably substitute some of the metallic beads featured in the patterns for other colours – I’m sure some of the other beaders will too. It will make for more interesting viewing when all the projects come together!
Anyway, the book contains 29 different projects with the opportunity to explore different stitches such as: right angle weave; peyote stitch; tubular herringbone stitch; brick stitch; ladder stitch; square stitch and more. There is a section at the back of the book which details how to do basic stitches with corresponding diagrams. Looking at the first project that I’ll be doing as part of the Bead Along (Summer Lace Necklace), the pattern looks easy to follow and the diagrams clear. I’m really looking forward to this one as the finished piece looks very delicate and I can see myself wearing it (if I manage to complete it of course!)
I had no idea that so many different pieces could be made with seed beads! I adore my craft books and this lovely beading book definitely looks like a keeper to me.
