I was inspired to have a go at crochet by a family member recently after seeing how she managed to work up a gorgeous crocheted blanket in what seemed like no time at all.
Crochet has been on my list of crafts to try for ages so I had a hunt around on You Tube for a tutorial and after a few failed attempts, I managed to create this – my first Granny Square!
It’s a bit wonky in places but I think I’ve now got the hang of how to hold the wool and get the tension right whilst working the stitches. I have to say, crocheting is really addictive. This Granny Square was made using a double crochet and chain stitch and it does work up very quickly.
I’m now working on a blanket for my cousin’s baby who is due in the Autumn. The project is going well so far, I’ll post a picture of that when it’s a bit further along but I’m thinking that the way things are going, I’ll definitely be able to finish it in time!
If you’d like to know how to crochet granny squares like the one I made, here’s the tutorial I used from Youtube below. I used a 4mm crochet hook and some DK wool. Enjoy!
