How would you like this cute little fella hanging from your bag or car keys?
I made this cute felt dog keyring from a craft kit that was sent to me to review by a company called Amazing Craft here in the UK. They offer a range of quick kits and this was one of them – it takes about an hour to make from start to finish!
Included in the kit was all the materials needed to make the keyring, including felt, thread, a sewing needle, template, ribbon, stuffing, the keychain and instructions (see pic above)!
First of all, I used the template provided to cut out two dog shapes. The instructions said to use a grey writing pencil for this, which I did, but it didn’t show up very well on the grey felt. With that said, I can see that using a pen would leave marks for everyone else to see later!
I sewed around the edges using “Whip Stitch” – I must confess, I had to Google it! 🙂 I can sew a few stitches but I’d never heard of this one, even though it is a basic stitch! There is a diagram included with the kit which shows you how to do the stitch, but I ended up watching a handy video on how to do it just to make sure I understood. I was relieved to find that it was super easy!
When I’d stitched all the way around, I filled the little felt dog with the stuffing provided. There was plenty leftover!
Attaching the keychain was the fiddliest part, but I followed the instructions step by step until I managed to sew it inside the felt dog properly. After this, the instructions went on to explain how to make eye stitches for the dog, which I found really helpful. The finishing touch was to tie the red ribbon around the felt dog’s neck!
Great token gift for adult and kiddie crafters!
I’m really impressed with this little craft kit! I got this one free of charge to try out, but I was pleasantly surprised to learn it retails at just £4.99. There’s some good materials included and I think it would make a lovely token gift for anyone who’d love to have a go at sewing something like this.
I’m thinking of buying a few as Christmas stocking fillers and they’d be great for kid’s party gifts too. My daughter is nearly 7 years old and I’m just introducing her to sewing at the moment. We made a felt ball the other day out of hexagon shapes and this would be a good follow on project for her. I’d just need to help her get started and sort out attaching the keychain for her.
What do you think to this little felt dog? If you’d like to make one, you can find this at the Amazing Craft website right here.
